Assignment 1 - Compilation of exercise

Exercises: Portfolio of Exercises

Design Brief

Throughout the semester, you will be given task in correspondence to what you've learnt from the weekly practical sessions to test your level of competency in Photoshop and Illustrator. You are expected to complete the tasks in class.
Duration
4 Exercises (Week 1-7)

Week 1 - 2 Back to the future
Based on the samples of old and damaged photographs given, you are required to restore and color the picture by using all the skills you've learnt in Photoshop such as cloning, healing, coloring, highlighting and shadowing, sharpening, etc. You may either recolor the photograph realistically or hyper-realistically (for example, color pallet of Avatar)

Week 3 - 4 Dali Atomicus, Galconda and the Man on the moon
You are required to create a surrealistic photomontage by combining an organic object and an inorganic object. (Eg: hand and flowerpot, snake and rope, etc). Set the mood of the scene by designing an appropriate background to go with your photomontage.

Week 5 - 6 Change One’s Stripe
Change textures or hybrid animals
Stamp / Clone Stamping / Brush / Healing Brush / Spot Healing Brush / Mixing Brush
You will interchange the characteristics of a minimum of two animals. This could be a change of materials, swap of stripes or textures. You may go beyond and create a hybrid animal and include a third or even fourth characteristics (for example using a fruit texture to replace an animal’s skin). Google “Birds arms”.

Week 7 - 8 Castle of the Pyrenees
You are to recreate a surrealistic, physics defying landscape. Be it a floating castle or the clichéd whale swimming through the clouds. Refer to Castle of the Pyrenees by Rene Magritte.

Requirements
You are required to capture screenshots to demonstrate a step-by-step progression as to how the visuals are produced (at least 10 steps), and compile it in a PORTFOLIO PDF. This should be modeled after a Photoshop/Illustrator tutorial (examples to be provided).
